ABOUT SHEFFIELD INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

The school is well staffed by qualified teachers. A Chief Operating Officer manages the day-to-day running of the school, assisted by a range of administrative and support staff. We implement an enriched curriculum by intergrating the features of the International and national curriculum. The activities of the school are centred round the total development of the child.

Providing an education from the Pre School to the GCE Advanced Level following the British Curriculum and the National Curriculum in English medium for the all-round development of the student under a Sri Lankan cultural environment.

PRINCIPAL

Mrs Hema Wellalage is a very well qualified teacher and experienced school Principal. She has a BA (Hons.) degree and MA in Education from the Universities of Ceylon, Peradeniya and Colombo respectively, together with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education and a Higher Diploma in Counselling and Psychology. She was formerly the Principal at a number of leading schools, including Dudley Senanayake Vidyalaya, St Paul’s Milagiriya and Lindsay Girls’ School. She served as Deputy Director of Education in the Education Office, Ratmalana.

PRE-SCHOOL:

Primary:
Upper School: Small class sizes ensure that each student receives individual attention. Curriculum – British Syllabus & National Syllabus. English, Sinhala, Tamil & French languages are taught.

Post A-level : We expect to develop links with overseas Universities so that students have the opportunity to study at institutions in English speaking countries and Japan. A link has already been established for students to travel abroad to study Japanese at The University in Tokyo. Further details can be obtained from the Executive Director, Nilmini Dissanayake.

ENROLMENT

Sports: including athletics, cricket, football, volleyball, netball and other sporting activities. A Sports Day is held each year.
Elocution – taught as a key timetabled subject in school; additional classes are available
Music/dance/drama – Eastern band
Arts & Crafts – biannual exhibition
Social Responsibility – Childrens and Elders Day – Sanhinda Elders Home – October 1st – entertainment – singing, dancing, music and meal.

MANAGING DIRECTOR - MS. D.M.T. NILMIMI DISSANAYAKE

Ms D M T Nilmimi Dissanayake obtained a BA (hons) degree in Japanese, sociology and mass communication from the University of Kelaniya and then completed a Masters degree in Sociology at the same university.

She subsequently read for a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education followed by a Diploma in Development School Management. Principal W-P Indra Siri Vidyalaya. She is fluent in Japanese and has studied in Japan, where she is the Sri Lankan representative and a Director of the Nihon Wellness Sports University.

DIRECTOR - MR. IWAO MENJOR

Is a resident of Nagoya – Tokyo Japan. Posses a national qualification in Motor Mechanics. Presently owns a company dealing with Agriculture & medical treatment relating to organic agriculture under the Japanese Natural Organic Agriculture.
Joining the Sheffield International (Private) Ltd with the foremost intention of providing a safe and healthy environment through introduction and promotion of Organic Agri-products among the school system focussing on environment friendly atmosphere, through collaborated Educational programmes with Japan.

DIRECTOR - MR. KOSALA

Mr Korsala R Dissanayake holds a BSC Hons degree in Management, University of Dublin and a Masters degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Kelaniya He is in his final year of an LLB degree from Stafford shire University, UK.

DIRECTOR - DR DAVID SYMINGTON

Dr David Symington Hodge has worked as a Senior Research Scientist for several companies in the UK and US in such fields as: aerospace materials, inks and dyes, antimicrobial agents and pharmaceuticals, and was formerly Chairman of the UK Royal Society of Chemistry, Formulation Science and Technology Group. He has been involved in schools and educational projects in countries including: UK, India, Tunisia and Sri Lanka. He also has considerable experience of tertiary education and in collaborative projects with universities.

DIRECTOR - MR. UPUL MUHANDIRAMGE

He holds a BA from the University of Sri Jayawardanapura, Sri Lanka, and is presently one of the Directors of Sheffield International School, and is currently the Administrative Manager of Sheffield International School and Sheffield International Language Center.

INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE CENTER

In order to cater to the number of request to learn other languages to pave the way for international studies the International Language Center was established in 2013. Many students who seek admission to foreign universities for higher studies attend this center.

Due to the numerous request from youth seeking admission to pursue studies in Japan a special Unit was set up under the able guidance of a professional tutors from Sir Lanka and Japan.

Already students have gain admission to Japanese Universities in Tokyo and Nagoya.
Enrollment for the Classes is April/ July/October/January to prepare the students for each intake.
